Gatchaman: I Ninja Scientifici del Dottor Nambu
Icona assoluta della Tatsunoko, Gatchaman ha segnato generazioni di fan grazie al design bird-style dei protagonisti e ai loro incredibili veicoli tecnologici.
Il panorama diecast è dominato dai giganti Eidai Grip e Popy. Mentre Grip si occupò della prima storica serie, Popy portò la qualità a livelli eccelsi con la linea Popynica (serie PB). Tra i modelli più ambiti troviamo la God Phoenix PB-78, il robottino Paima GA-92 e il massiccio Gatchaspartan DX. Una menzione speciale va alla rarissima variante “Firebird” rossa, vero incubo e sogno di ogni collezionista.
In questa sezione di Robot Vintage, ripercorriamo la storia dei ninja di Nambu attraverso i loro modelli in metallo più celebri.

| GATCHAMAN- 105 PUNTATE – 1972 |
L’Organizzazione scientifica internazionale (ISO) organizza un piano d’emergenza per cercare di migliorare le condizioni ambientali della Terra, oramai devastata dall’inquinamento. Ma la terribile banda criminale Galactor (“Spectra” nell’edizione americana), comandata da un misterioso alieno proveniente dal pianeta Selectol, noto come Generalissimo X(“Grande Spirito” nell’edizione americana, “Leader X” in quella giapponese), tenta di prendere il controllo della Terra. Il suo luogotenente è un personaggio misterioso, maestro dei travestimenti, di nome Berg Katse(“Zoltar” nell’edizione americana). Per difendere il mondo, quindi, viene istituita un’apposita squadra di combattenti, dotati di poteri straordinari. Il team, caratterizzato da costumi a foggia di uccelli, viene chiamato Gatchaman ed è composto da 5 ragazzi: Ken l’aquila, il capo; Joe il condor; Pretty Jane il cigno (Pretty Jun); Ryu il gufo e Gimpy la rondine (Jinpei). Dopo una lunga e difficile guerra il pianeta d’origine del Generalissimo X scompare misteriosamente (il motivo non verrà mai chiarito). Sconvolto dall’accaduto l’alieno decide di andare ad investigare, ma prima intende distruggere la Terra, dicendo che ormai conquistarla per lui non ha più alcun senso. Avvia così un piano per far esplodere il pianeta colpendolo ripetutamente al nucleo con missili, e poi parte per lo spazio. Non c’è modo di fermare in tempo il meccanismo di lancio dei missili: Katse, persa ogni speranza, si suicida gettandosi nella lava mentre i Gatchaman non si arrendono e cercano una soluzione. Poi, di colpo, avviene un’esplosione e la macchina preposta alla fine del mondo si ferma. Nessuno saprà mai che è merito di una delle piume speciali usate come armi da Joe, che sacrifica la propria vita per salvare La Terra. |
Il merchandising Diecast della serie fu realizzato dalla ditta POPY 
. e in parte dalla ditta GRIP 
Anime di enorme successo che ha generato merchandising di ogni genere, sia a livello di giocattoli che a livello cartaceo. Per quanto riguarda la produzione diecast furono realizzati dalla Eidai Grip i veicoli della prima serie e dalla Popy quelli della seconda e terza serie. Tutti molto ricercati, i più costosi sono la Gatchaspartan Dx e la rarissima Firebird (una versione rossa della Godphoenix dx estremamente rara)

E’ un italo-giapponese. Pilota d’auto da corsa, è il vice capo del gruppo: nato col nome di George è figlio di 2 membri di Galactor ed uccisi da una bomba mentre cercavano di fuggire. Il dottor Nambu gli ha salvato la vita, ribattezzandolo Joe e nascondendolo. Tiratore scelto ed esperto d’armi.

Robot pensante, pianifica le missioni dalla base segreta G-TOWN e talvolta guida anche il Godphoenix.
GODPHOENIX: Base volante dei Gatchman, guidata da Ryu il gufo contiene gli altri 4 veicoi dei protagonisti. E’ molto potente ma ragguinge le sue massime potenzialità di fuoco quando tutti i veicoli sono presenti nelle loro specifiche posizioni nei punti strategici della nave. NUOVA GODPHOENIX: Come gli altri veicoli anche la nuova God Phoenix nel mecha design ricorda un uccello, in questo caso la mitologica Fenice. Quando nel suo hangar sono presenti tutti e 5 i veicoli è in grado di trasformasi in fenice infuocata diventando praticamente invincibile. |

Kozaburo Nambu
Ricercatore alle dipendenze dell’organizzazione internazionale per la scienza. È lui il principale oppositore del gruppo terroristico noto col nome di Galactor, aumentando le capacità fisiche dei Gatchaman per consentir loro di compiere imprese sovrumane (alta velocità, salto in volo, movimento silenzioso d’attacco): questo sistema di combattimento viene conosciuto come “Science Ninja Technique”
Comandante Anderson
E’ il capo dell’ISO, e quindi superiore del Dottor Nambu, Inoltre riveste anche una carica politica molto importante alle Nazioni Unite.
Generalissimo X
Eminenza grigia dei Galactor, un essere extraterrestre in parte biologico ed in parte meccanico che desidera impossessarsi e prendere il controllo delle risorse naturali del pianeta. È lui che ha creato i Galactor, organizzazione internazionale di terroristi dotati di tecnologia avanzata. I pochi indizi disseminati nelle serie rivelerebbero che proviene dal lontano pianeta Selectol, ed è giunto sulla Terra per prenderne il controllo e trasformarla in un avamposto per una guerra galattica che la sua patria starebbe sostenendo contro altri imperi galattici.

Nella seconda serie viene posta a capo dei Galactors, ma i suoi modi sono abbastanza infantili, questo deriva dal fatto che il Generalissimo X l’ha creata tramite un processo di crescita forzata di una bambina di sei anni.

Compare nell’ultima serie, Vero stratega militare, anche se molto spesso punta tutto sulla violenza e sui massacri. E’ anche un abile spadaccino e spietato combattente.
Gatchaman: Doctor Nambu’s Science Ninjas
A Tatsunoko masterpiece, Gatchaman set the standard for team-based action anime with its bird-themed heroes and futuristic mecha design.
Diecast collectors focus on the legendary productions by Eidai Grip and Popy. Popy’s Popynica series (PB codes) is particularly famous, featuring the God Phoenix PB-78, the Paima GA-92 robot, and the massive Gatchaspartan DX combiner. The “Firebird” red variant remains one of the rarest treasures in the entire vintage toy market.

The International Scientific Organization (ISO) organizes an emergency plan to try to improve the environmental conditions of the Earth, now devastated by pollution. But the terrible criminal gang Galactor (“Spectra” in the American edition), led by a mysterious alien from the planet Selectol, known as Sosai X (“Great Spirit” in the American edition, “Leader X” in the Japanese one), attempts to take control of the Earth. His lieutenant is a mysterious character, master of disguises, named Berg Katse (“Zoltar” in the American edition). To defend the world, a special team of fighters is formed, endowed with extraordinary powers. The team, characterized by costumes in the shape of birds, is called Gatchaman and is composed of 5 boys: Ken the eagle, the leader; Joe the condor; Pretty Jane the swan (Pretty Jun); Ryu the owl and Gimpy the swallow (Jinpei). After a long and difficult war, Sosai X’s home planet mysteriously disappears (the reason is never clarified). Shocked by what happened, the alien decides to go and investigate, but first he intends to destroy the Earth, saying that conquering it no longer makes any sense to him. He thus starts a plan to blow up the planet by repeatedly hitting its core with missiles, and then leaves for space. There is no way to stop the missile launch mechanism in time: Katse, having lost all hope, commits suicide by throwing himself into the lava while the Gatchaman do not give up and look for a solution. Then, suddenly, an explosion occurs and the machine designed to end the world stops. No one will ever know that it is thanks to one of the special feathers used as weapons by Joe, who sacrifices his life to save the Earth. |
The Diecast merchandising of the series was made by the POPY . and partly by the company GRIP
Anime of enormous success that has generated merchandising of all kinds, both in terms of toys and paper. As for the diecast production, the vehicles of the first series were made by Eidai Grip and those of the second and third series by Popy. All highly sought after, the most expensive are the Gatchaspartan Dx and the very rare Firebird (a red version of the extremely rare Godphoenix dx)

He is an Italian-Japanese. A racing car driver, he is the vice-leader of the group: born with the name of George, he is the son of 2 members of Galactor and killed by a bomb while trying to escape. Doctor Nambu saved his life, renaming him Joe and hiding him. A sharpshooter and weapons expert.

GODPHOENIX: Flying base of the Gatchman, led by Ryu the owl contains the other 4 vehicles of the protagonists. It is very powerful but reaches its maximum firepower when all the vehicles are present in their specific positions in the strategic points of the ship. NEW GODPHOENIX : Like the other vehicles, the new God Phoenix in its mecha design resembles a bird, in this case the mythological Phoenix. When all 5 vehicles are present in its hangar, it is able to transform into a fiery phoenix, becoming practically invincible. |

He is the main opponent of the terrorist group known as Galactor, increasing the physical capabilities of the Gatchaman to allow them to perform superhuman feats (high speed, leap in flight, silent attack movement): this combat system is known as “Science Ninja Technique”
Comandante Anderson
He is the head of the ISO, and therefore superior to Doctor Nambu. He also holds a very important political position at the United Nations.
General X
Eminence grise of Galactor, an extraterrestrial being partly biological and partly mechanical who wants to take possession and control of the planet’s natural resources. He is the one who created Galactor, an international organization of terrorists equipped with advanced technology. The few clues scattered throughout the series would reveal that he comes from the distant planet Selectol, and has come to Earth to take control of it and transform it into an outpost for a galactic war that his homeland would be waging against other galactic empires.
Zoltar
Master of deception and subterfuge, always full of tricks and hidden bombs, he is an escape artist.
Gelsadora
In the second series she is placed in charge of Galactors, but her ways are quite childish, this comes from the fact that Sosai X created her through a process of forced growth of a six-year-old girl.
Conte Egobossler
He appears in the latest series, True Military Strategist, although he often relies on violence and massacres. He is also a skilled swordsman and ruthless fighter.
