ULTRAMAN – Il Gigante di Luce

Dopo uno scontro fatale con una sfera di luce proveniente dalla Nebulosa M78, il pilota Shin Hayata viene resuscitato da un alieno che si fonde con lui. Utilizzando la Beta Capsule, Hayata si trasforma in Ultraman, un gigante argentato che difende la Terra dai Kaiju. Il suo unico limite sono i tre minuti di autonomia segnalati dal Color Timer sul petto.

Il merchandising diecast di riferimento per questa serie è esclusivamente quello prodotto da POPY. All’interno della celebre linea Chogokin, la ditta giapponese ha realizzato modelli in metallo pesanti e iconici, catturando perfettamente l’estetica del gigante di luce e dei mezzi tecnologici della SSSP. Questi pezzi originali degli anni ’70 sono considerati i pilastri fondamentali per ogni collezionista di diecast vintage.


ULTRAMAN – 40 PUNTATE – 1967
Ultraman è apparso per la prima volta nella serie tv omonima del 1967. La prima serie composta da 40 episodi (39 + lo speciale prequel) è stata prodotta dalla Tsuburaya Productions e trasmessa dalla Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) dal 17 luglio 1966 al 9 aprile 1967. Negli anni seguenti sono state prodotte numerose altre serie tra le qualiUltraseven, Kaettekita Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro, Ultraman Leo, Ultraman 80 (anni settanta), Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Dyna,Ultraman Gaia(anni novanta), fino ai recenti Ultraman Cosmos, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Max del 2005 e Ultraman Mebius del 2006. Le serie di Ultraman sono spesso definite Ultra Serie. Parallelamente alle serie tv, nei cinema giapponesi sono stati proiettati numerosi lungometraggi che ampliavano o aggiungevano dettagli alle serie tv in onda in quel periodo. In Italia nei primi anni ottanta alcune emittenti televisive private hanno trasmesso parte della prima serie doppiata in italiano. Un componente della “Guarnigione degli Ultra”, è in missione per scortare il mostro Bemular al Cimitero Spaziale quando, nelle vicinanze del pianeta Terra, un’astronave della Pattuglia Scientifica, incaricata di vegliare sulla sicurezza del pianeta e combattere mostri preistorici che si risvegliano e minacciano il mondo, entra in collisione con la sfera-prigione del mostro spaziale. L’incidente libererà Bemular che riuscirà a rifugiarsi sulla Terra dopo aver ucciso il pilota dell’astronave terrestre, Hayata. L’Ultra di scorta, però, non riesce ad accettare la morte del “collega” terrestre, così decide di fondersi con lui in un unico corpo per riportarlo in vita. Da questo momento, grazie alla “Beta Capsule”, affidatagli dall’Ultra, l’umano può trasformarsi in Ultraman e assumere le sembianze del poliziotto galattico per difendere la Terra da ogni possibile minaccia aliena. Ma nell’ultimo episodio, Ultraman viene sconfitto e ridotto in fin di vita dal mostro Zetton che viene successivamente distrutto da un’arma miracolosa inventata da Ide, un membro della pattuglia scientifica. Improvvisamente compare Ultraman Zoffy, il capitano della Guarnigione degli Ultra che separa Hayata da Ultraman e riporta quest’ultimo sano e salvo sulla Nebulosa M78, la patria degli Ultramen.

La serie Ultraman ha riscosso un enorme successo ed è stata la prima di un filone durato un decennio, Persino ai giorni nostri è ancora un cult. Il merchandising è stato, ed è tuttora, enorme. Furono prodotti giocattoli di ogni tipo in plastica ed in metallo, libri, comics colonne sonore fino ad arrivare ai DVD della serie venduti on line in questi anni. Popy in passato ottenne i diritti per poter riprodurre il protagonista realizzandone dei chogokin oggi molto ricercati e di valore.

Pilota di astronavi, viene ucciso dal mostro Bemular durante una missione nello spazio, L’Ultra di scorta, però, non riesce ad accettare la morte del “collega” terrestre, così decide di fondersi con lui in un unico corpo per riportarlo in vita. Ultraman è il primo alieno del pianeta Ultra a visitare la Terra , Dopo essersi reincanato nel corpo di Hayata decide di rimanere per difendere la Terra dagli attacchi di alieni e di mostri. Sarà richiamato e tornerà nel suo pianeta nativo dopo la sua ultima battaglia contro il mostro Zetton .

ULTRAMAN – The Giant of Light

Following a fatal collision with a sphere of light from Nebula M78, pilot Shin Hayata is resurrected by an alien who merges with him. Using the Beta Capsule, Hayata transforms into Ultraman, a silver giant defending Earth from Kaiju. His only limit is the three-minute power supply tracked by the Color Timer on his chest.

The definitive diecast merchandising for this series is exclusively produced by POPY. Within its famous Chogokin line, the Japanese company created heavy, iconic metal models that perfectly captured the aesthetic of the Giant of Light and the SSSP vehicles. These original 1970s pieces are considered the essential pillars for every vintage diecast collector.

In the following years, numerous other series were produced, including Ultraseven, Kaettekita Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro, Ultraman Leo, Ultraman 80 (1970s), Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Gaia (1990s), up to the recent Ultraman Cosmos, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Max (2005) and Ultraman Mebius (2006). In Italy in the early 1980s, some private television stations broadcast part of the first series dubbed into Italian. A member of the “Ultra Garrison”, is on a mission to escort the monster Bemular to the Space Graveyard when, near the planet Earth, a spaceship of the Scientific Patrol, charged with watching over the safety of the planet and fighting prehistoric monsters that awaken and threaten the world, collides with the prison sphere of the space monster. The accident will free Bemular who will be able to take refuge on Earth after killing the pilot of the Earth spaceship, Hayata. The escorting Ultra, however, cannot accept the death of his “colleague” from Earth, so he decides to merge with him in a single body to bring him back to life. From this moment, thanks to the “Beta Capsule”, entrusted to him by the Ultra, the human can transform into Ultraman and take on the appearance of the galactic policeman to defend the Earth from any possible alien threat. But in the final episode, Ultraman is defeated and left nearly dead by the monster Zetton who is subsequently destroyed by a miracle weapon invented by Ide, a member of the science patrol. Suddenly, Ultraman Zoffy, the captain of the Ultra Garrison, appears and separates Hayata from Ultraman and brings the latter safely back to the M78 Nebula, the homeland of the Ultramen.

The Ultraman series was a huge success and was the first of a series that lasted a decade. Even today it is still a cult. The merchandising was, and still is, huge. Toys of all kinds were produced in plastic and metal, books, comics, soundtracks up to the DVDs of the series sold online in recent years. Popy in the past obtained the rights to reproduce the protagonist by making chogokin that are now very sought after and valuable.

Ultraman is the first alien from the planet Ultra to visit Earth. After being reincarnated into Hayata’s body, he decides to stay to defend Earth from attacks by aliens and monsters. He will be recalled and return to his native planet after his final battle against the monster Zetton.
