Video senshi Laserion) is a Japanese mecha anime created by Toei Animation and broadcast from 1984 to 1985 on TBS. The series consists of a total of 45 episodes. The story is about Takashi Katori and his best friend, Olivia. One day while Takashi was playing an online game with his American friend David, a scientific experiment involving the teleporting of a plane from Japan to New York, via the same satellite used for the game data, causes a strange accident: the plane, which has been converted into digital information, is transmitted to Takashi’s computer while the data of the virtual robot created by our hero for the game materialize into a real robot, the Laserion.
Takashi is captured by the government, which is busy countering the continuous attacks of the robots (the Black Bears) of Dr. God Haid, a diabolical scientist who, to take revenge for a wrong suffered by his colleague Prof. Bluheim, has taken refuge on the Moon (now a sort of abandoned colony with limited access). Dr. God Haid and the inhabitants of the Earth colonies on the Moon and Mars are animated by feelings of hatred towards their home planet, due to the capitalist policies that have caused pollution, overpopulation and as a result of which the space colonies have been transformed into landfills for waste and places of confinement for criminals. The government forces Takashi to pilot the Laserion robot to protect the Earth. Takashi, thanks to the technological superiority of the Laserion, always manages to get the upper hand and is only put in difficulty by a skilled pilot (Eric Sid) hired by God Haid. Eric initially manages to gain the upper hand and almost manages to break the Laserion in two, but Takashi manages to escape and, thanks to a particular Kendo fighting technique he learned later, to defeat the enemy, who however is also put in difficulty because he is betrayed by his ally Colonel Inspire.
The plot continues without major changes until episode 23, in which a new and terrible enemy will appear, the alien empire from the planet Jack. At first, the aliens will collaborate with the rebels of the lunar colonies and Mars to study the Laserion robot and collect enough data to build another more powerful robot capable of countering it, the fearsome Gario Saban, piloted by a young pilot named Gario. Dr. God Haid opposes the new alliance but will be killed by his subordinate Mark who is under the mental control of the three aliens who first reached Mars (Ganymede, Calisto and Io). Once they have achieved their goal, the aliens will get rid of their allies and send Gario Saban to Earth to destroy Laserion. Here ends the series of the first 26 episodes broadcast in Italy.

Episodes 27 to 45 have never been imported into our country. After the appearance of the Gario Saban, the Laserion will be put in serious difficulty and will be defeated. However, Takashi manages to save himself in extremis thanks to an upgrade of his robot implemented by Dr. Bluheim, which will make the power of the two robots equal. A series of fights between the Laserion and the new and powerful robots deployed by the aliens then begins and in the course of the plot Olivia will be kidnapped. Two new mechs will also appear, very similar to the Gario Saban and equipped with the ability to unite into a single and powerful robot, which however will also be defeated during a long and spectacular fight. In the end, Takashi will manage to free his girlfriend Olivia and all the aliens’ prisoners on the Moon, including Olivia’s father. Meanwhile, Emperor Jack is betrayed and poisoned by the leader of the alien troops, but Gario will be able to discover the fact thanks to the help of the blood-stained footprints of the cat of the deceased doctor God Haid, who witnessed the event. Gario beheads the leader of the troops and launches into a final battle against Takashi, who is on the verge of succumbing twice. However, Gario is distracted by God Haid’s cat and Takashi takes advantage of this to inflict the final blow to the enemy, thus managing to definitively defeat Jack’s empire.

The Diecast merchandising of the series was made by the POPY .and in the GODAIKIN line

Mecha series that has not had much success despite being certainly innovative toys.
