Gaiking: Il Risveglio del Drago Spaziale
Trasmessa nel 1976, la serie Daikyu Maryu Gaiking ha ridefinito il genere mecha grazie al carismatico robot che prende vita dal maestoso Drago Spaziale.
Il merchandising d’epoca è firmato Popy. Mentre il Daikyu Maryu (GA-52) e la versione ST (GA-51) sono pezzi di facile reperibilità, il Gaiking DX (GA-50) è un modello estremamente costoso e raro, vero fulcro economico della collezione. Ad essi si affiancano i tre veicoli Popinica: Skyler (PA-86), Nesser (PA-85) e Bazoler (PA-84). Possedere un GA-50 completo di scatola e accessori rappresenta uno dei traguardi più impegnativi e prestigiosi dell’universo Chogokin.

| GAIKING- 48 PUNTATE – 1976 |
Zela, pianeta situato nella galassia del Cigno ad una distanza di circa 6.000 anni luce dalla Terra, era un mondo prospero e fiorente, ed i suoi abitanti vivevano in uno stato culturalmente e scientificamente avanzatissimo. Ma la loro sopravvivenza era messa costantemente in grande pericolo a causa del loro sole Sigma, che a seguito delle pericolose reazioni nucleari prodotte stava velocemente mutandosi in un micidiale buco nero. In seguito, resosi conto di non poter evitare la distruzione di Zela, Darius, imparatore del pianeta, decise allora di impossessarsi di un pianeta le cui caratteristiche fossero simili a quelle che una volta erano dello stesso Zela: e così la scelta fu quella di invadere la Terra, che gli zelani studiavano e conoscevano da migliaia di anni. In passato infatti numerose spedizioni di zelani avevano visitato la Terra.Giunto il momento dell’invasione aliena, fortunatamente il nostro pianeta non si trova però impreparato agli attacchi del nemico. Il professor Daimoni, illustre scienziato giapponese, ha infatti costruito una gigantesca astronave da combattimento, il Drago Spaziale e il Robot Gaiking. Dopo Innumervoli battaglie il Gaikin riporta la pace i gli abitanti pacifici di zela si trasferiscono sulla terra abbandonando ogni mira di conquista del loro imperatore. |

La maggior parte dei diecast dell’anime sono stati prodotti da Popy. Belli e ben realizzati hanno ancora un discreto mercato pur essendo sono toys di facile reperibilità. L’eccezione è il Drago Spaziale Deluxe che se completo ed in box è sicuramente nella top 10 dei chogokin più rare e costosi da trovare.

Il Gaking fondamentalmente è costituito da tre moduli principali che unendosi formano rispettivamente braccia, corpo e gambe dell’automa. Generalmente sia le braccia che le gambe sono alloggiate all’interno dell’astronave, mentre il corpo, che è la testa del Drago Spaziale, è sistemata all’esterno. Durante la fase di aggancio, la testa si stacca dalla nave madre, mentre gli altri componenti vengono lanciati all’esterno attraverso un condotto. |

Gigantesca astronave da combattimento ideata e creata dal Prof. Daimoni. Sulla parte frontale si trova il portello principale dal quale vengono lanciati i due componenti del Gaiking e da cui escono anche i tre veicoli ausiliari per le varie perlustrazioni (Skyler, Nessak e Bazoora). Durante gli attacchi da parte del nemico il Drago Spaziale può cambiare aspetto mettendosi in assetto di difesa e diventando quindi una fortezza inespugnabile; la coda del Drago si curva verso l’interno, mentre parte del corpo si piega verso il basso unendosi. |

Sanshiro
Eccellente giocatore di baseball, durante la partita che l’avrebbe fatto entrare nel mondo professionistico subisce un attacco da parte delle Armate dell’Orrore Nero, che gli procurano una grave lesione al polso mettendo così termine alla sua carriera. Sanshiro è inoltre dotato anche di poteri ESP, e per questo motivo viene scelto dal prof. Daimoni per pilotare il Gaiking .
Professor Daimonjii
È l’ideatore del Gaiking e del Drago Spaziale, del quale è il comandante; inoltre è stato lui a “reclutare” in tutto il mondo le persone capaci di formarne l’equipaggio, nel quale ripone una fiducia incrollabile. Personaggio comprensivo, saggio e deciso, riesce ad individuare in ogni situazione la tattica più congeniale ed appropriata per contrastare il nemico
Midori Fujiyama
È l’addetta alle telecomunicazioni. Dolce e comprensiva, è l’unica donna a bordo del Drago Spaziale. In realtà Midori è una creatura aliena di nome Green che, arrivata sulla Terra quando era ancora neonata, venne salvata e quindi adottata dal professor Daimonji
Pete Richardson
È il capitano dell’equipaggio del Drago Spaziale; tipo alquanto freddo e scontroso, ma dotato di grande abilità e capacità nella guida dell’astronave.
Sakon Gen
Sostituto del professor Daimoni, è la “mente” di tutto l’equipaggio del Drago Spaziale. Il suo altruismo, la grande intelligenza, ma soprattutto la notevole genialità che possiede fanno di lui uno dei personaggi più intriganti di tutta la serie
Bunta Hayami
Dotato di grande forza fisica è allo stesso tempo molto coraggioso ed altruista. Difficilmente si lamenta nonostante la sua vita sia costantemente in pericolo. È il pilota del Nessar
Pianeta Zela
Il pianeta Zela era situato nella galassia del Cigno ad una distanza di circa 6.000 anni luce dalla Terra, a causa di un buco nero il loro pianeta era destinato a scomparire. Gli zelani, popolo pacifico, allora crearono un gigantesco robot senziente, Black Darius, sperando col suo aiuto di poter in tal modo salvarsi dalla sicura estinzione a cui sembravano esser destinati. Black Darius prese il potere e dichiarò guarra alla Terra identificandolo come possibile pianeta da colonizzare e conquistare.
Black Darius
Essere creato dagli abitanti di Zela in realtà è un gigantesco robot senziente programmato con lo scopo di trovare un pianeta su cui trasferire l’intera popolazione. Tuttavia Darius appena ebbe il controllo di Zela, diventò un vero e proprio tiranno.

nato per volontà di Darius. assiene a Dankel Asmoff e Killer, Il suo compito è quello di aiutare quest’ultimo nella conquista dell’universo

Gaiking: The Awakening of the Great Space Dragon
Aired in 1976, Daikyu Maryu Gaiking is a mecha masterpiece featuring a robot that assembles from the skull of the Great Space Dragon.
The original toy line by Popy is iconic. While the Daikyu Maryu (GA-52) and ST version are quite accessible, the DX Gaiking (GA-50) stands as an exceptionally expensive and sought-after masterpiece. The set is completed by the Popinica fleet (PA-84, PA-85, PA-86). Finding a GA-50 in Mint in Box (MIB) condition remains a high-budget milestone for serious collectors of vintage Japanese diecast.

Zela, a planet located in the Cygnus galaxy at a distance of about 6,000 light years from Earth, was a prosperous and thriving world, and its inhabitants lived in a culturally and scientifically advanced state. But their survival was constantly put in great danger because of their sun Sigma, which, following the dangerous nuclear reactions produced, was quickly mutating into a deadly black hole. Later, realizing that he could not avoid the destruction of Zela, Darius, a learner of the planet, decided to take possession of a planet whose characteristics were similar to those that once were of Zela itself: and so the choice was to invade the Earth, which the Zelans had studied and known for thousands of years. In the past, in fact, numerous Zela expeditions had visited the Earth. When the time came for the alien invasion, fortunately our planet was not unprepared for the enemy’s attacks. Professor Daimoni, an illustrious Japanese scientist, has in fact built a gigantic combat spaceship, the Space Dragon and the Gaiking Robot. After countless battles, the Gaikin restores peace and the peaceful inhabitants of Zela move to Earth, abandoning any conquest plans of their emperor. |
The Diecast merchandising of the series was made by the POPY .
Most of the anime diecasts were produced by Popy. Beautiful and well made, they still have a decent market even though they are easy to find toys. The exception is the Deluxe Space Dragon that if complete and in box is definitely in the top 10 of the rarest and most expensive chogokin to find.

The Gaking is basically made up of three main modules that when joined together form the arms, body and legs of the robot. Generally, both the arms and legs are housed inside the spaceship, while the body, which is the head of the Space Dragon, is placed outside. During the docking phase, the head detaches from the mother ship, while the other components are launched outside through a duct. |

Gigantic combat spaceship designed and created by Prof. Daimoni. On the front is the main hatch from which the two components of the Gaiking are launched and from which the three auxiliary vehicles for the various reconnaissance missions (Skyler, Nessak and Bazoora) also emerge. During enemy attacks, the Space Dragon can change appearance, putting itself in defense mode and thus becoming an impregnable fortress; the Dragon’s tail curves inward, while part of the body bends downwards, joining together. |

Sanshiro
An excellent baseball player, during the game that would have made him enter the professional world he suffers an attack by the Black Horror Army, which causes him a serious injury to the wrist thus putting an end to his career. Sanshiro is also equipped with ESP powers, and for this reason he is chosen by Prof. Daimoni to pilot the Gaiking.
Professor Daimonjii
He is the creator of the Gaiking and the Space Dragon, of which he is the commander; he was also the one who “recruited” from all over the world the people capable of forming the crew, in whom he places unshakable trust. A sympathetic, wise and determined character, he is able to identify in every situation the most congenial and appropriate tactic to counter the enemy.
Midori Fujiyama
She is the telecommunications officer. Sweet and understanding, she is the only woman aboard the Space Dragon. In reality, Midori is an alien creature named Green who, having arrived on Earth when she was still a newborn, was saved and then adopted by Professor Daimonji
Pete Richardson
He is the captain of the Space Dragon crew; a rather cold and grumpy guy, but endowed with great skill and ability in driving the spaceship.
Sakon Gen
Professor Daimoni’s replacement, he is the “mind” of the entire Space Dragon crew. His altruism, great intelligence, but above all the remarkable genius he possesses make him one of the most intriguing characters in the entire series
Bunta Hayami
Gifted with great physical strength, he is at the same time very brave and altruistic. He rarely complains despite his life being constantly in danger. He is the pilot of the Nessar
Planet Zela
The planet Zela was located in the Cygnus galaxy at a distance of about 6,000 light years from Earth, due to a black hole their planet was destined to disappear. The Zela, a peaceful people, then created a giant sentient robot, Black Darius, hoping with his help to be able to save themselves from the certain extinction to which they seemed destined. Black Darius took power and declared war on Earth identifying it as a possible planet to colonize and conquer.
Black Darius
Being created by the inhabitants of Zela is actually a giant sentient robot programmed with the purpose of finding a planet to relocate the entire population. However, Darius once he had control of Zela, he became a real tyrant.
Desmon
born by the will of Darius. together with Dankel Asmoff and Killer, His task is to help the latter in the conquest of the universe

General, is one of the Big 4 in charge of the powerful army of Black Darius
