ISSUN BOSHI – (LETTERATURA GIAPPONESE)
Una vecchia coppia senza figli pregò gli dei di essere benedetta ricevendo un bambino e le divinità esaudirono il suo desiderio. Tuttavia, il figlio della coppia alla nascita era alto solo un sun (unità di misura tradizionale cinese pari a 3,33 cm) e per tutta la vita non crebbe in altezza. Pertanto, il bambino divenne noto come “Il ragazzo alto un sun” o “Issun-bōshi”. Un giorno Issun-bōshi disse che voleva andare nella capitale per diventare un guerriero, quindi iniziò il suo viaggio con una scodella come barca, una bacchetta come pagaia e un ago come spada, infilato in un filo di paglia che fungeva da fodero.[1] Nella capitale trovò impiego nella splendida casa di un daimyō. Accadde che la figlia del padrone di casa fece un viaggio, durante il quale venne rapita da un oni. Issun-bōshi affrontò l’oni per salvare la ragazza, ma il mostro lo inghiottì. Allora, Issun-bōshi usò l’ago per colpire dall’interno la pancia dell’oni, che si arrese a causa del dolore, risputando fuori Issun-bōshi prima di fuggire sulle montagne. Issun-bōshi raccolse un martello magico, che l’oni aveva lasciato cadere, e lo usò per raggiungere un’altezza pari a sei shaku (circa 182 cm), in modo da poter sposare la ragazza che aveva salvato. In seguito, Issun-bōshi usò il martello per evocare cibo, tesori e ogni genere di oggetto, facendo prosperare la sua famiglia per generazioni.

Issun Boshi: Il Pollicino Orientale

Protagonista di una delle fiabe più antiche della letteratura giapponese, Issun Boshi è un minuscolo guerriero alto solo pochi centimetri. Armato di un ago come spada e navigando in una ciotola di riso, affronta coraggiosamente un malvagio Oni, riuscendo a sconfiggerlo dall’interno. Grazie a un martello magico ottenuto dopo la vittoria, Issun Boshi acquisisce dimensioni normali, diventando un nobile cavaliere.

L’archivio di Robot Vintage documenta la rara figura in metallo realizzata dalla Popy per questo personaggio, identificata dal codice GA-69. Il modello fa parte della Meisaku Series, la linea di tredici soggetti che celebra i grandi eroi della tradizione letteraria e storica giapponese. Issun Boshi: The Oriental Tom Thumb

The hero of one of Japan’s oldest folk tales, Issun Boshi is a tiny warrior just a few centimeters tall. Armed with a needle for a sword and sailing in a rice bowl, he courageously faces a wicked Oni, defeating the monster from within. After his victory, he uses a magic hammer to grow to normal size, becoming a noble knight.

The Robot Vintage archive documents the rare metal figure produced by Popy for this character, identified by the code GA-69. The model is part of the Meisaku Series, a line of thirteen subjects celebrating the great heroes of Japanese literary and historical tradition. In this section, we analyze the technical features of this diecast, sought after by collectors for its historical significance within the classic Chogokin numerical sequence.

An old childless couple prayed to the gods to be blessed with a child, and the gods granted their wish. However, the couple’s son was only one sun (a traditional Chinese unit of measurement equal to 3.33 cm) tall at birth, and throughout his life he did not grow in height. Therefore, the child became known as “The One Sun Tall Boy” or “Issun-bōshi”. One day, Issun-bōshi said that he wanted to go to the capital to become a warrior, so he set out on his journey with a bowl for a boat, a chopstick for a paddle, and a needle for a sword, threaded into a straw for a scabbard.[1] In the capital, he found employment in the splendid house of a daimyō. It happened that the daughter of the master of the house went on a journey, during which she was kidnapped by an oni. Issun-bōshi confronted the oni to save the girl, but the monster swallowed him. Then, Issun-bōshi used the needle to stab the oni’s belly from the inside, and the oni gave up in pain, spitting Issun-bōshi out before fleeing into the mountains. Issun-bōshi picked up a magical hammer, which the oni had dropped, and used it to grow to a height of six shaku (about 182 cm), so that he could marry the girl he had saved. Issun-bōshi then used the hammer to summon food, treasure, and all manner of objects, making his family prosperous for generations.
