YATTAMAN – The Hunt for the Dokrostone
The second and most famous installment of the Time Bokan series, Yattaman is an explosive mix of humor, creative design, and action. The clashes between heroes Ganchan and Janet and the Drombo Trio are legendary in animation, as are their iconic animal robots and the famous “surprises of the week” released from the mecha after consuming their bone tonic.
Diecast models produced by TAKATOKU are small masterpieces of mechanical and color accuracy. The line includes classics like Yatta Can and Yatta Zo (Elephant), but it is the Yatta Fish that represents the “Holy Grail” for many enthusiasts due to its extreme rarity. All technical details are available in the fifth volume of the Diecast Encyclopedia for Premium Users.

| YATTAMAN – 53 EPISODES – 1981 |
The story takes place in the 80s over a period of several years. The trio of thieves and scammers known as the Drombo Trio, whose symbol is a skull, is contacted and “enlisted” by Doctor Dokrobei, a mysterious and very powerful character who always and only presents himself to them in voice, placed inside a different object each time, with a skull imprinted on it, which then explodes at the end of the explanation. Their task, from that moment, will be to find the four fragments of the Dokrostone stone, which once reunited will yield a fabulous treasure (the great gold vein mentioned in the Italian theme song). The Drombo Trio thus begins to organize yet another scam in order to collect the money needed to build the combat robot that will take them to the place where, according to Dokrobei, there “should” be a fragment of the stone. Needless to say, the Doctor’s intuition will prove wrong in most cases. But the three did not count on the champions of justice, the Yattaman (two kids named Ganchan and Janet, also called Yatta1 and Yatta2), who discover their plans and chase them with their animal-shaped robots. Once they reach the chosen location, the two teams clash, first physically and then with their respective robots. Ganchan has a Kendama as a weapon, with which he hits one of the three enemies and, by pressing a button, unleashes an electric shock, just as Janet has a telescopic stick from which electric shocks come out. In the end, more due to the stupidity or bad luck of the bad guys than the skill of the good guys, good triumphs. The Drombo trio sadly sets off home aboard a tandem, but their suffering is not over: Doctor Dokrobei, connected to them via a skull-shaped speaker installed on the bike, is dissatisfied with them and dispenses a terrible punishment from a distance from time to time. For example, he turns them into three geese and has them chased by a wolf, he turns the ground under their feet into quicksand, he makes springy shoes appear on their feet, and more. The three, in desperation, repeatedly exclaim “to hell with Dokrobei!!!” This hilarious plot is repeated throughout the series, until the last one, where an astonished Drombo Trio manages to put together the Dokrostone and discovers its unsuspected connection with Doctor Dokrobei. The latter, in fact, is only a skull-shaped alien, who broke into pieces when he landed on Earth, but now that his body has been reassembled, he can return to his planet. They will discover, after having delivered the last piece (completing the skull) of the Dokrostone stone, the true identity of Dokrobei, and that the famous treasure has never existed. The trio, discovering that they have been tricked, decide to separate, taking 3 different paths. But they will reunite again because the 3 paths reunite into one road. |

The diecast merchandising of the series was made by the company TAKATOKU
.
Like the other series of the “Time Bokan” genre, Yattaman was also licensed to Takatoku who created excellent diecast models very faithful to those seen on TV. Sought-after but quite common models, except for the fish yatta which is very rare and expensive.
All the cards of the various diecast models made are available in the Fifth book of the encyclopedia and online for the Premium Users

YATTA WAN: A cross between a huge toy dog and a fire truck, it has a siren, a bell on its face and two fire hoses on its shoulders. When it ingests the bone-shaped tonic, three little dogs come out of a small window on the front and play a drum roll, and different mini mammalian robots come out of its mouth and go and destroy the enemy robot car.
YATTA ELEFANTE: A colossal robot elephant that can fly and even go into space (it will take the place of Yatta King towards the end of the cartoon). It contains four Yattarobots: the three already contained in Yatta King plus Yatta Campione. Unlike all the others, Yatta Elefante does not have any tonics.

YATTA PESCE: A submarine shaped like an anglerfish; the Yattamen can decide whether to cling to the sides of the vehicle or enter a cockpit. Its tonic is a stuffed sandwich (a “michetta”) and the mini robots (fish, sometimes also terrestrial) are introduced by the sound of three little trumpet fish from whose trumpets bubbles of water come out
YATTA KING: After the destruction of Yatta Can by the Drombo, Ganchan and Janet build a huge version of the Yatta Can, capable of holding three more self-sufficient Yatta-vehicles that do not need to be piloted by Yattamen. They are respectively Yatta Bull, Yatta Panda and Yatta Doiler.

YATTA PELICAN: A vehicle similar to Yatta Can, with the difference that it resembles a large pelican and is able to travel both on land and in the sky thanks to its thrusters. When it ingests the catfish-shaped tonic, three birds appear on the front that use their beaks like trumpets and mini robot birds emerge from their beaks.
YATTA PANDA: A panda riding a scooter and carrying her cub Baby Panda on her head. When she ingests the sugarcane-shaped tonic, Baby Panda prepares to play using the bamboo shoot in her mouth like a flute.

YATTA BULL: Represents a Bulldog, travels on wheels under its front legs, moves with its hind legs raised. When it ingests the hot-dog tonic, a little dog appears and plays a drum roll, as it did for Yatta Can.
YATTA DOJLER: A kind of yellow dinosaur, whose “body” is actually a barrel. On top of it (the robot’s “back”) there is a dome that allows the Yattaman to stay. Its tonic is a stuffed bread disc and the little robot that introduces the mini robots is a little dinosaur that plays a harmonica from inside an egg.

YATTA YOKOZUNA: A greyhound-like robot that fights like a sumo wrestler. Instead of the traditional robot introducing the mini-attackers, the announcement is made by a petulant cat in a kimono, who appears in the visor that is revealed under the central plate of the armor, once the tonic is received.

Ganchan
He is 13 years old, although in the Italian version his age is completely ignored and he is given a voice actor with an adult voice. He is a boy with an exceptional talent for mechanics, he modifies Yatta Can, a dog-shaped robot built by his father (a former toy designer), and transforms it into an exceptional fighting machine; later he will create the other Yatta-machines to counter the Drombo trio. He fights under the name of Yatta1 and his weapon is a kendama capable of launching electric shocks.

Janet
Ganchan’s companion, also thirteen, she fights alongside him against the Drombo trio. She hides her identity behind the alias of Yatta2. Her weapon is a paralyzing staff that emits electric shocks.

Robbie Robbie
A handyman robot built by Ganchan. Mascot of the Yattaman, he helps them in battle by administering a tonic to the Yatta-machines that makes them more powerful. His body is shaped like a dice (which is used in the choice of robot machines from time to time), into which he can retract his head and limbs, like a turtle into its shell.

Miss Dronio
24 years old, aspiring actress and leader of the Drombo Trio. A woman determined to pursue her goals but also rather irascible, she usually unleashes her anger on her subordinates. Dronio is single, looking for a husband, and towards the end of the series she will begin to be charmed by Yatta1, ending up rooting for him in some cases!

Boyakky
25 years old, designer and builder of the Drombo Trio’s war machines. Lanky, stooped, mustachioed, toothy and decidedly unlucky, the group’s engineer is hopelessly in love (unrequited) with Miss Dronio, and despite being very ugly, he says he has many female admirers in his entourage.

Tonzula
30 years old, the workman of the Trio. A clumsy and awkward character, very short and with an unkempt beard, but very strong, he supports Boyakki in hand-to-hand combat with the Yattaman…reminiscent of Donkey Kong.
