Daltanious: Il Gigante dal Cuore di Leone
Prodotta dalla Toei Animation nel 1979, Daltanious è una serie rivoluzionaria, la prima a vantare un leone meccanico come componente del torace. L’unione di Atlaus, Beralios e Gunper crea un’icona del design robotico anni ’70.
Nel collezionismo vintage, la licenza è un vanto della Popy. Il set DX (GB-01, GB-02, PB-81) è il pezzo più prestigioso, affiancato dalla solida versione ST (GA-99). Grande rilevanza storica ha anche la versione Godaikin di Bandai, che ha portato questo splendido stampo nelle collezioni di tutto il mondo. Trovare questi modelli completi di scatola originale e accessori (come la leggendaria Spada Infuocata) rappresenta un traguardo fondamentale per ogni appassionato di Chogokin.

| DALTANIOUS – DALTANIAS– 49 PUNTATE – 1979 |
Durante gli anni ’90 del 900 (più precisamente il 1995), la Terra subisce il massiccio attacco degli alieni Akron, che in breve tempo costringono sotto il loro dominio varie nazioni. Il Giappone, in particolare, è ridotto in rovina ed i sopravvissuti vivono una vita di stenti, quelli più fortunati sopravvivono tramite il mercato nero, mentre agli altri non resta che la carità ed il furto. A quest’ultima categoria appartiene il gruppo di bambini e adolescenti composto da Danji, Sanae, Mita, Jiro, Tanosuke, Manabu e guidato dall’audace Kento. Nel corso di un loro tentativo di furto, i sei si imbattono in una grotta che conduce ad una base sotterranea, dove giace in ibernazione il Dottor Earl. Accidentalmente, Kento e i suoi compagni lo risvegliano e portano alla luce la sua base, causando l’immediata ritorsione degli Akron. A questo punto, il Dottor Earl costringe Kento e Danji a mettersi alla guida rispettivamente del robot Antares e dell’aereo Gumper ed i due, sorprendentemente, riescono a tener testa ed a sconfiggere gli Akron. Questi ultimi, però, non si danno per vinti ed inviano contro i ragazzi un mega-robot dall’aspetto mostruoso. Kento e Danji sono in grave difficoltà contro un simile avversario, ma proprio quando stanno per essere sconfitti giunge loro in aiuto il leone robotico Beralios. A questo punto, uno sbigottito Dottor Earl annuncia ai due ragazzi che i due mezzi e Beralios possono unirsi a formare l’invincibile mega-robot Daltanious, cosa che puntualmente avviene. Sconfitto anche questo avversario, vengono svelati alcuni segreti relativi a Kento e agli Akron: si scopre infatti che Kento è il principe ereditario del regno di Helios, in quanto figlio del precedente principe Harlin, fuggito sulla Terra col dottor Earl quando gli Akron attaccarono il loro pianeta. Ma Kento non sembra per niente interessato al suo regale lignaggio e gli Akron non si sono certo arresi: la guerra per la liberazione della Terra è ancora lunga. |
Il merchandising Diecast della serie fu realizzato dalla ditta POPY 
e nella linea 
Linea chogokin realizzata da Popy, del robot sono state riprodotte una versione standard non trasformabile e la bellissima versione in box singolo scomponibile nei 2 veicoli pilotati dei protaonisti e nel robot leone. Toys sempre molto amati e ricercati. Esiste anche una versione rarissima denominata “Black Daltanias” dove veicoli ad armi sono tutte di colore nero, un toys che qundo esce in asta supera anche i 10.000 euro! Nel 2011 Bandai ha realizzato il Daltanioas anche per la linea Soul Of Chogokin.

Kento Tate
Il protagonista, un giovane forte, simpatico e sempre spensierato. È il pilota del robot Antares nonché del grande Daltanious. Kento, in realtà, è un principe, nipote dell’imperatore Nishimura, discendente dalla nobile dinastia regnante sul ricco e pacifico pianeta Helios.
Danji Hiiragi
Serio e misterioso diciassettenne, ; è l’amico di Kento e pilota del Gumper, un jet super armato che forma le gambe del Daltanious. Di lui si sa solo che fu trovato da Kento in fin di vita in una strada di quartiere durante un attacco alieno.
Dottor Earl
Scienziato-capo di Helios fuggito nel 1945 sulla Terra assieme al padre di Kento in capsule che li mantenevano in stato d’ibernazione. È lui che ha costruito Antares, Gumper e Beralios, le tre macchine che formano il grande Daltanious
Ormen
Capo supremo degli Akron. Per quasi tutto il corso della serie la sua identità è tenuta segreta e di lui vediamo solo gli occhi fluttuanti su uno schermo nero. Si scoprirà nella puntata finale che Ormen è in realtà il clone (biodroide, un essere costruito artificialmente) dell’imperatore Nishimura, il nonno di Kento

In principio è il capo delle forze di invasione della Terra.
Generale Prozar
A capo di una divisione, il suo aspetto rassomiglia ad un ibrido umanoide a metà strada tra un rettile ed un equino o a quello di un drago. Ha la pelle color violaceo
Generale Mizuka
Capo di una divisione, ha un aspetto davvero peculiare: il suo vero corpo è piccolo e a forma di medusa, con un grande occhio rosso al centro.
Daltanious: The Giant with the Lion’s Heart
Produced by Toei Animation in 1979, Daltanious made history as the first combining robot with a lion’s head on its chest. The trio of Atlaus, Beralios, and Gunper remains a masterpiece of Japanese sci-fi design.
The vintage toy line was led by Popy with the DX Set (GB-01, GB-02, PB-81) and the ST version (GA-99). The Godaikin release by Bandai is also legendary, representing the premium international version of this diecast giant. Finding a Daltanious in Mint in Box (MIB) condition, complete with its original chrome weapons and box art, is the ultimate goal for collectors of 1970s and 80s super robots.

During the 90s of the twentieth century (more precisely 1995), the Earth suffers the massive attack of the aliens Akron, who in a short time force various nations under their dominion. Japan, in particular, is reduced to ruins and the survivors live a life of hardship, the luckiest ones survive through the black market, while the others have no choice but to charity and theft. The latter category includes the group of children and adolescents composed of Danji, Sanae, Mita, Jiro, Tanosuke, Manabu and led by the audacious Kento. During their attempted theft, the six come across a cave that leads to an underground base, where Doctor Earl lies in hibernation. Accidentally, Kento and his companions awaken him and bring his base to light, causing the immediate retaliation of the Akron. At this point, Doctor Earl forces Kento and Danji to pilot the robot Antares and the plane Gumper respectively and the two, surprisingly, manage to hold their own and defeat the Akrons. The latter, however, do not give up and send a monstrous-looking mega-robot against the boys. Kento and Danji are in serious difficulty against such an opponent, but just when they are about to be defeated, the robotic lion Beralios comes to their aid. At this point, a stunned Doctor Earl announces to the two boys that the two vehicles and Beralios can join together to form the invincible mega-robot Daltanious, which promptly happens. Once this opponent is defeated, some secrets relating to Kento and the Akrons are revealed: it is discovered that Kento is the crown prince of the kingdom of Helios, as the son of the previous prince Harlin, who fled to Earth with Doctor Earl when the Akrons attacked their planet. But Kento doesn’t seem at all interested in his royal lineage and the Akrons have certainly not given up: the war for the liberation of the Earth is still long. |
The Diecast merchandising of the series was made by the POPY and in the line
Chogokin line made by Popy, a standard non-transformable version of the robot has been reproduced, as well as the beautiful single box version that can be dismantled into the 2 piloted vehicles of the protagonists and the lion robot. Always much loved and sought-after toys. There is also a very rare version called “Black Daltanias” where the vehicles and weapons are all black, a toy that when it comes out at auction even exceeds 10,000 euros! In 2011 Bandai also created the Daltanioas for the Soul Of Chogokin line.

Kento Tate
The protagonist, a strong, friendly and always carefree young man. He is the pilot of the robot Antares as well as the great Daltanious. Kento, in reality, is a prince, grandson of the emperor Nishimura, descendant of the noble dynasty ruling the rich and peaceful planet Helios.
Danji Hiiragi
A serious and mysterious seventeen-year-old, ; he is Kento’s friend and the pilot of the Gumper, a super-armed jet that forms the legs of Daltanious. The only thing known about him is that Kento found him dying on a neighborhood street during an alien attack.
Dottor Earl
Chief scientist of Helios who escaped to Earth in 1945 with Kento’s father in capsules that kept them in a state of hibernation. He is the one who built Antares, Gumper and Beralios, the three machines that form the great Daltanious
Ormen
Supreme leader of the Akron. For most of the series his identity is kept secret and we only see his eyes floating on a black screen. It will be discovered in the final episode that Ormen is actually the clone (biodroid, an artificially constructed being) of Emperor Nishimura, Kento’s grandfather
Supremo Kloppen
In the beginning he is the leader of the invasion forces of Earth.
Generale Prozar
At the head of a division, his appearance resembles a humanoid hybrid halfway between a reptile and an equine or that of a dragon. He has purple-colored skin.
Generale Mizuka
Leader of a division, he has a very peculiar appearance: his real body is small and shaped like a jellyfish, with a large red eye in the center.
