UFO Robot Goldrake (Grendizer) ha segnato l’inizio dell’era dei robot in Italia nel 1978. La storia di Actarus, principe del pianeta Fleed, e della sua lotta contro l’Impero di Vega a bordo del potente Goldrake, è diventata leggenda. Affiancato da Koji Kabuto e dai piloti degli Spazer di supporto, Goldrake difende la Terra con armi iconiche come l’Alabarda Spaziale e il Tuono Spaziale, incarnando i valori di coraggio e giustizia interstellare.

L’archivio di Robot Vintage presenta un’analisi meticolosa del merchandising originale Popy. Oltre al celebre GA-37 (e al set DX con lo Spacer), approfondiamo le rarità della linea Popinica: il TFO PA-60, la versione ST PA-61, il Daiken Buggy PA-62 e il Duke Pit PA-67. *GOLDRAKE GRENDIZER– 109 PUNTATE – 1977*
Il protagonista della serie è il principe Duke Fleed, fuggito dopo una disperata resistenza a bordo di un avanzatissimo robot da battaglia, Goldrake (Grendizer) dal suo pianeta natale Fleed in seguito all’attacco delle truppe del feroce Re Vega. Le Forze di Vega infatti si propongono di sottomettere i pianeti invadendoli ed annettendoli al loro impero. Giunto sulla Terra Duke Fleed viene trovato gravemente ferito dal dottor Procton (Genzo Umon), direttore dell’ Istituto di ricerche spaziali, il quale lo accoglie e lo nasconde sotto le mentite spoglie di Actarus (Daisuke Umon).Circa otto anni dopo, continuando il loro progetto di invasione, anche le truppe di Vega giungono presso la Terra e .Actarus si troverà ad utilizzare nuovamente Goldrake per difendere il suo pianeta adottivo. Nella battaglia finale contro tutte le forze di Vega rimaste, lanciate in un ultimo disperato attacco, i compagni di Actarus alla guida di una nuova astronave, il Cosmo Speciale distruggono sistematicamente tutte le navi e i minidischi mentre Goldrake combatte contro la nave imperiale di Re Vega. Inizia un lungo combattimento e Actarus, dopo essere stato in difficoltà, con l’aiuto dei suoi amici riesce a danneggiare gravemente il nemico e re Vega, vistosi sconfitto, per vendicarsi ordinerà di fare schiantare la propria astronave sulla Terra per contaminarla con le proprie ceneri radioattive, ma Actarus riuscirà a fermarlo in tempo: con un ultimo colpo della sua alabarda spaziale, la sua arma più caratteristica, il Goldrake squarcia la sezione di comando della nave colpendo lo stesso sovrano che, in un ultimo delirio di onnipotenza, muore nell’esplosione finale, mentre i nostri eroi si lasciano andare ad un pianto di gioia. Terminata la guerra con la rassicurazione che la loro patria natale Fleed sta tornando alla vita, Actarus e Maria decidono di tornarvi per ricostruire, assieme a coloro che scamparono all’invasione da parte di Vega, il regno perduto. In un commosso commiato dal padre adottivo Procton e dagli amici più cari, Actarus e Maria decollano alla volta di Fleed e l’ultima sequenza li vede arrivare sul loro pianeta ormai rifiorito.

Il merchandising Diecast della serie fu realizzato dalla ditta POPY .

Anime che ha generato un’enome quantità di merchandising di ogni genere, giocattoli, VHS prima e DVD poi, cartaceo, vinili….Per quanto riguarda la produzione di diecast i modelli sono stati realizzati da Popy. Sicuramente molto ricercato è il GA37 di cui esistono moltissime varianti e i prezzi variano moltissimo, ma pur non essendo particolarmente rari da trovare sono molto costosi anche la base spaziale e la moto di Duke.

GRENDIZER

Potente robot, costruito dal popolo del pianeta Fleed è situato all’interno di un enorme disco volante dal quale esce per poter combattere contro i mostri lanciati da Vega.

Quando è inserito dentro al disco volante il Grendizer può volare sia nell’atmosfera terrestre che nello spazio.

Duke Fleed (Actarus)

E’ il principe del Pianeta Fleed, che è stato invaso dalle forze del malvagio Re Vega. Riesce a salvarsi e a trovare nascondiglio sulla Terra sotto il nome di Actarus (Daisuke Umon nella versione originale giapponese) facendosi passare per il figlio del dottor Procton (Genzo Umon), capo dell’Istituto di ricerche spaziali. Comincia a combattere al fianco dei terrestri per la difesa del suo pianeta di adozione minacciato dalle truppe del Re Vega. Al comando del robot Grendizer

Kabuto Koji (Alcor)

In passato ha pilotato il Mazinga, chiamato dall’Istituto Ricerche Spaziali del dottor Procton (Umon) per indagare con il suo prototipo TFO (Test Flying Object) su alcuni misteriosi avvistamenti di UFO avvenuti in Giappone, si ritrova così a combattere al fianco di Goldrake contro le forze di invasione di Vega.

Hikaru Makiba (Venusia)

Venusia è la maggiore dei due figli di Rigel, il titolare della fattoria adiacente all’Istituto di Ricerche Spaziali del dottor Procton. Decide di affiancare Actarus e Alcor in battaglia e per lei verrà messo a punto un nuovo mezzo da combattimento, il Delfino Spaziale, in grado di agganciarsi e permettere a Grendizer di immergersi e combattere sott’acqua.

Maria Grace Fleed

Maria è la sorella di Duke, inizialemente si riteneva che fosse morta, in realtà era sopravvissuta e una volta giunta sulla Terra decide di aiutare il fratello nella lotta contro Vega

The Vega Forces in fact intend to subjugate the planets by invading them and annexing them to their empire. Arriving on Earth, Duke Fleed is found seriously injured by Doctor Procton (Genzo Umon), director of the Space Research Institute, who takes him in and hides him under the false name of Actarus (Daisuke Umon). About eight years later, continuing their invasion project, Vega’s troops also reach Earth and Actarus will find himself using Goldrake again to defend his adoptive planet. In the final battle against all the remaining forces of Vega, launched in a last desperate attack, Actarus’s companions at the helm of a new spaceship, the Cosmo Speciale, systematically destroy all the ships and mini-discs while Goldrake fights against King Vega’s imperial ship. A long fight begins and Actarus, after being in difficulty, with the help of his friends manages to seriously damage the enemy and King Vega, seeing himself defeated, will order his spaceship to crash into Earth to contaminate it with his own radioactive ashes to get revenge, but Actarus will manage to stop him in time: with a final blow of his space halberd, his most characteristic weapon, Goldrake tears through the command section of the ship, hitting the sovereign himself who, in a final delirium of omnipotence, dies in the final explosion, while our heroes let themselves go and cry with joy. After the war, with the reassurance that their homeland Fleed is coming back to life, Actarus and Maria decide to return there to rebuild, together with those who escaped the invasion by Vega, the lost kingdom. In a touching farewell to his adoptive father Procton and his dearest friends, Actarus and Maria take off for Fleed and the final sequence sees them arrive on their now re-flourished planet.

Anime that has generated a huge amount of merchandising of all kinds, toys, VHS first and then DVD, paper, vinyl… As for the production of diecast models, the models were made by Popy. Certainly very sought after is the GA37 of which there are many variations and prices vary greatly, but although they are not particularly rare to find, the space base and Duke’s motorbike are also very expensive.

Duke Fleed

He is the prince of the Planet Fleed, which has been invaded by the forces of the evil King Vega. He manages to save himself and find a hiding place on Earth under the name of Actarus (Daisuke Umon in the original Japanese version) by passing himself off as the son of Doctor Procton (Genzo Umon), head of the Space Research Institute. He begins to fight alongside the Earthlings to defend his adopted planet threatened by the troops of King Vega. In command of the robot Grendizer

Kabuto Koji

In the past he piloted Mazinger, called by the Space Research Institute of Doctor Procton (Umon) to investigate with his prototype TFO (Test Flying Object) on some mysterious UFO sightings that occurred in Japan, and thus finds himself fighting alongside Goldrake against the invasion forces of Vega.

Hikaru Makiba

Venusia is the eldest of the two children of Rigel, the owner of the farm adjacent to Doctor Procton’s Space Research Institute. She decides to join Actarus and Alcor in battle and a new combat vehicle, the Space Dolphin, will be developed for her, capable of attaching itself and allowing Grendizer to dive and fight underwater.

Maria is Duke’s sister, initially it was believed that she was dead, in reality she survived and once she arrived on Earth she decides to help her brother in the fight against Vega
