Dairugger XV: Il Gigante dei Quindici Elementi
Andata in onda nel 1982, Kiko Kantai Dairugger XV è una pietra miliare della Toei Animation. Il robot protagonista è celebre per la sua incredibile scomposizione in 15 veicoli indipendenti, raggruppati nei Team Terra, Aria e Mare.
Nel collezionismo vintage, la licenza appartiene a Popy. Il pezzo più ambito è il Chogokin DX Dairugger XV (GB-72), un set imponente che permette la combinazione totale dei 15 moduli in metallo e plastica. Esiste anche la versione ST (GB-73), apprezzata per la sua robustezza e l’ampio uso di diecast. Trovare un modello DX completo di ogni piccolo accessorio e della scatola originale è oggi il traguardo massimo per ogni appassionato di robot componibili degli anni ’80.

| DAIRUGGER – 52 PUNTATE – 1982 |
Negli Stati Uniti, è stato pesantemente modificato per diventare parte della serie Voltron. Il filmato di Dairugger è stato la fonte principale per gli episodi di “Vehicle Voltron”, sebbene vari filmati siano stati inseriti anche negli episodi di “Lion Voltron”. Il Rugger Team è una forza di esplorazione, rilevamento planetario e difensiva. La Terra è in un momento di prosperità. Il presidente della Lega Terrestre lancia una missione per esplorare la galassia e costruire una mappa completa delle stelle. Subito dopo l’inizio della missione, il Rugger Team e la loro astronave, la Rugger Guard, vengono attaccati dall’Impero di Galveston. Dairugger, il super robot, deve difendere la Rugger Guard e la sua flotta mentre tentano di continuare la loro missione. Quando Galveston rifiuta ripetutamente di accettare una coesistenza pacifica, la loro missione si trasforma in trovare il pianeta natale di Galveston, liberare la sua gente dal loro dispotico imperatore e aiutarli a trovare un nuovo pianeta prima che il loro mondo crolli. Il Rugger Team è composto da tre squadre più piccole di 5 membri ciascuna: Air, Sea e Land, denominate alternativamente Aki Team, Keats Team e Walter Team dal nome del leader di ciascuna squadra. Aki è il leader assoluto del Rugger Team. Ognuna delle 15 parti viene chiamata Rugger e può combinarsi in macchine più grandi come squadre separate chiamate Kurugger (Aria), Kairugger (Mare) e Rikurugger (Terra), nonché insieme per formare il super robot Dairugger. Le 15 unità Rugger separate e il nome derivano dallo sport del rugby, poiché per formare un’unione di rugby sono necessari 15 giocatori. |

Squadra composta dai veicoli da 1 a 5. Combinandosi asseme a tutti gli altri veicoli formano il Dairugger XV mentre se si combinano tra loro 5 diventano un veicolo utilizzato prevalentemente per missioni aeree.
Aki Manabu (Lager 1〈Testa〉)
Il leader della squadra Kuuragar. È il pilota di Rugger 1 e il pilota principale di Dai Rugger. Nel mezzo del gioco, con il nuovo sistema del Capitano Ise, ricopre il ruolo di vice capitano insieme a Keats e Walter, diventando più cauto e crescendo come leader.
Shinobu Kai (Trasportatore 2 (petto))
Pilota del Trabaccolo 2. Durante il conflitto interno, sembrava avere un lato calmo, interpretando il ruolo di placare Manabu e gli altrI. È una persona onesta che rimprovererà duramente qualcuno.
Shorter Kreutz (Lugger 3 (spalla destra/braccio superiore))
Pilota del Lugger 3. Dal pianeta Sara. Rispetta suo fratello maggiore che è morto proteggendolo (episodio 12).
Yasuo Mutsu (Trasportatore 4 (spalla sinistra/braccio superiore))
Pilota del Lugger 4. Porta gli occhiali ed è compagno di classe di Haruka alla scuola spaziale. Una famiglia con un solo genitore e un figlio unico. Forse per questo ha una mentalità un po’ materna ed è preoccupato per la sicurezza di sua madre a casa.
Patti Ellington (Lugger 5〈Chest〉)
Pilota del Lugger 5. Ha una personalità forte, e anche Manabu ammette che la tecnica di manovra del suo Rugger 5 è paragonabile a quella di qualsiasi altro uomo. Ha anche un lato calmo e svolge il ruolo di controllare e incoraggiare Manabu.
SEA RUGGER
Squadra composta dai veicoli da 2 a 10. Combinandosi asseme a tutti gli altri veicoli formano il Dairugger XV mentre se si combinano tra loro 5 diventano un veicolo utilizzato prevalentemente per missioni marie.
Miranda Keats (Lager 6〈Pancia〉)
Il leader della squadra Kairager che pilota il Luger 6. Originario del pianeta Mira. Personalità tranquilla e prudente. Ha la telepatia e un acuto sesto senso .
Kaga Haruka (Trasportatore 7 <coscia destra>)
Pilota del Lugger 7. Poiché è una persona seria e affidabile e ha una buona intuizione, riesce a percepire i sentimenti degli altri. A causa della sua personalità, funge anche da consigliere della squadra e interagisce molto con Manabu dalla metà in poi.
Salta Katz (Lager 8〈Coscia sinistra〉)
Pilota del Lugger 8. Un grande uomo del pianeta Sara. Si fida di Keats e si arrabbia quando lo prende in giro.
Tatsuo Izumo (Trabaccolo 9 <stinco destro>)
Pilota del Lugger 9. Di solito ha una personalità calma ed educata, ma è molto serio riguardo alle sue missioni e talvolta si perde e si arrabbia quando gli viene negata una missione.
Barros Karateya (Lager 10 (stinco sinistro))
Pilota del Lugger 10. Un uomo di colore di New York con una permanente distintiva. Ha una personalità ottimista, ma è anche un po’ timido.
LAND RUGGER
Squadra composta dai veicoli da 11 a 15. Combinandosi asseme a tutti gli altri veicoli formano il Dairugger XV mentre se si combinano tra loro 5 diventano un veicolo utilizzato prevalentemente per missioni su terra.
Walter Jacques (Lugger 11〈vita〉)
l pilota del Lugger 11 e il leader della squadra Rick Lugger. Mentre mostra il suo lato di leader che prende decisioni calme, mostra anche il suo margine di manovra da adulto che gioca con Manabu e esce con lui.
Moya Kirigassu (Rager 12 (braccio/pugno inferiore destro))
Un pilota di Ragger 12 e originario del Pianeta Mira. Poiché provengono dallo stesso pianeta, è in buoni rapporti con Keats e, come lui, vanta capacità telepatiche e agili capacità fisiche.
Muck Chucker (Lugger 13 (braccio/pugno inferiore sinistro))
Pilota del Lugger 13. Un grosso uomo di colore in competizione per le squadre Lager 1 e 2. Una personalità tranquilla che è gentile con i bambini.
Izu Tusk (Lugger 14 (caviglia destra))
Pilota del Lugger 14. Una persona spensierata con una personalità ottimista.
Kazuto Nagato (Trasportatore 15〈Caviglia sinistra〉)
Pilota del Lugger 15. Ha un modo di guardare la realtà da una prospettiva leggermente inclinata e, di conseguenza, i suoi commenti critici sono spesso puntuali ed è ben informato.

Dairugger XV: The Giant of Fifteen Elements
Aired in 1982, Kiko Kantai Dairugger XV is a landmark Toei Animation series. The robot is famous for combining 15 independent vehicles, divided into the Land, Air, and Sea Teams.
The vintage toy line was managed by Popy. The most prestigious item is the Chogokin DX Dairugger XV (GB-72), a massive diecast set featuring the full 15-vehicle combination. The solid ST version (GB-73) is also highly valued by collectors for its durability. Finding a complete DX unit with all its original weapons and packaging is a major milestone for 1980s super robot enthusiasts.

In the United States, it was heavily edited to become part of the Voltron series. The Dairugger footage was the main source for the “Vehicle Voltron” episodes, although various footage was also used in the “Lion Voltron” episodes. The Rugger Team is an exploration, planetary survey, and defense force. Earth is in a time of prosperity. The president of the Earth League launches a mission to explore the galaxy and build a complete map of the stars. Soon after the mission begins, the Rugger Team and their spaceship, the Rugger Guard, are attacked by the Galveston Empire. Dairugger, the super robot, must defend the Rugger Guard and its fleet as they attempt to continue their mission. When Galveston repeatedly refuses to accept peaceful coexistence, their mission becomes one of finding Galveston’s home planet, freeing its people from their despotic emperor, and helping them find a new planet before their world collapses. The Rugger Team is composed of three smaller teams of 5 members each: Air, Sea, and Land, alternately called the Aki Team, the Keats Team, and the Walter Team after the leader of each team. Aki is the overall leader of the Rugger Team. Each of the 15 parts is called a Rugger, and can combine into larger machines as separate teams called Kurugger (Air), Kairugger (Sea), and Rikurugger (Land), as well as together to form the super robot Dairugger. The 15 separate Rugger units and the name are derived from the sport of rugby, as 15 players are needed to form a rugby union. |

Aki Manabu (Camp 1〈Head〉)
The leader of the Kuuragar team. He is the pilot of Rugger 1 and the main pilot of Dai Rugger. In the middle of the game, with the new Captain Ise system, he takes on the role of vice-captain alongside Keats and Walter, becoming more cautious and growing as a leader.
Shinobu Kai (Transporter 2 (pet))
Pilot of the vehicle 2. During the internal conflict, he seemed to have a calm side, playing the role of appeasing Manabu and the others. He is an honest person who will harshly scold someone.
Shorter Kreutz (Lugger 3 (right shoulder/upper arm))
Pilot of Lugger 3. From planet Sara. He respects his older brother who died protecting him (episode 12).
Yasuo Mutsu (Transporter 4 (left shoulder/upper arm))
Pilot of Lugger 4. Wears glasses and is Haruka’s classmate at space school. A single-parent family with an only child. Perhaps because of this, he has a somewhat maternal mentality and is concerned about his mother’s safety at home.
Patti Ellington (Lugger 5〈Chest〉)
Pilot of the Lugger 5. He has a strong personality, and even Manabu admits that his Rugger 5’s maneuvering technique is comparable to that of any other man. He also has a calm side and serves the role of controlling and encouraging Manabu.
SEA RUGGER
Team composed of vehicles 6 to 10. When combined with all the other vehicles they form the Dairugger XV while if 5 of them are combined together they become a vehicle used mainly for marine missions.
Miranda Keats (Lager 6〈Belly〉)
The leader of the Kairager team that pilots the Luger 6. Originally from the planet Mira. Calm and cautious personality. Has telepathy and a keen sixth sense.
Kaga Haruka (Transporter 7) )
Pilot of Lugger 7. Since he is a serious and reliable person and has good intuition, he can sense the feelings of others. Due to his personality, he also acts as the team’s advisor and interacts a lot with Manabu from the middle onwards.
Jump Katz (Lager 8〈Left Thigh〉)
Pilot of the Lugger 8. A big man from the planet Sara. He trusts Keats and gets angry when he makes fun of him.
Tatsuo Izumo (Lager 9 )
Pilot of the Lugger 9. He usually has a calm and polite personality, but is very serious about his missions and sometimes gets lost and angry when he is denied a mission.
Barros Karateya (Lager 10 (left shin))
Pilot of the Lugger 10. A black man from New York with a distinctive perm. He has an optimistic personality, but is also a bit shy.
LAND RUGGER
Team composed of vehicles 11 to 15. When combined with all the other vehicles they form the Dairugger XV while if 5 of them are combined together they become a vehicle used mainly for ground missions.
Walter Jacques (Lugger 11〈white〉)
Lugger 11’s pilot and team leader Rick Lugger. While he shows his calm decision-making leadership side, he also shows his adult leeway as he plays with Manabu and hangs out with him.
Moya Kirigassu (Rager 12 (lower right arm/fist))
A Ragger 12 pilot and a native of the Planet Mira. Since they are from the same planet, he is on good terms with Keats and, like him, boasts telepathic abilities and agile physical skills.
Muck Chucker (Lugger 13 (lower left arm/fist))
Pilot of the Lugger 13. A large black man competing for the Lager 1 and 2 teams. A quiet personality who is kind to children.
Izu Tusk (Lugger 14 (right ankle))
Pilot of the Lugger 14. A carefree person with an optimistic personality.
Kazuto Nagato (Transporter 15〈Left Ankle〉)
Pilot of the Lugger 15. He has a way of looking at reality from a slightly slanted perspective and, as a result, his critical comments are often timely and he is well informed.
