Spazio 1999: L’Odissea della Luna
Spazio 1999 è una serie cult italo-britannica creata da Gerry e Sylvia Anderson nel 1975. La storia inizia quando un’esplosione atomica spinge la Luna fuori dall’orbita terrestre. Sulla Base Lunare Alpha, il comandante John Koenig e il suo equipaggio iniziano una deriva nel cosmo, affrontando civiltà ignote e misteri spaziali, in una continua ricerca del significato dell’esistenza.
Il merchandising diecast ufficiale della serie fu affidato alla Popy. Sorprendentemente, l’azienda produsse un unico modello in metallo: la PB-21 Space Eagle. L’Aquila di Popy è una piccola gemma del collezionismo vintage, fedele nel design all’astronave da trasporto versatile vista nello show. Essendo l’unico pezzo diecast Popy dedicato a questa serie, rimane un oggetto di culto per gli appassionati di fantascienza e di giocattoli d’epoca.

Spazio 1999 (Space: 1999) è una serie televisiva italo-britannica di fantascienza ideata nel 1973 da Gerry e Sylvia Anderson, su un evento apocalittico in un profetico fine millennio, a scapito della nostra Luna, scardinata dall’orbita terrestre. Il soggetto, ad alta tensione e drammaticità, segue il filone cinematografico catastrofico ricorrente in quegli anni. Il 9 settembre 1999 John Koenig prende il comando della base lunare Alpha, un’installazione scientifica permanente, dovendo gestire i preparativi per una spedizione esplorativa sul pianeta Meta, di recente scoperta. Nel frattempo incidenti e decessi inspiegabili colpiscono gli addetti ad un deposito di scorie nucleari nonché gli astronauti candidati alla spedizione. Ben presto si rileva un repentino aumento del campo magnetico generato dalle stesse scorie. Koenig non fa in tempo a intervenire: il 13 settembre si innesca un’esplosione di incredibile violenza, tale da provocare l’uscita della Luna dall’orbita terrestre. Il satellite inizia la sua deriva nel cosmo e in questo andare senza meta l’equipaggio della base viene a contatto con civiltà aliene (ora amichevoli, ora ostili) e forme di vita insolite, che inducono a riflessioni filosofiche sul senso ultimo della vita. |

Americano, politico, dirigente dell’Amministrazione Spaziale. Noto per il suo cinismo, preoccupato per il progetto esplorativo di Meta più per fini di carriera che non per la morte misteriosa degli astronauti candidati.

The official diecast merchandising was produced by Popy. Interestingly, only one metal model was ever released: the PB-21 Space Eagle. Popy’s Eagle is a masterpiece of vintage collecting, accurately reflecting the design of the show’s versatile transport vessel. As the sole Popy diecast entry for the series, it stands as a high-value item for fans of classic science fiction and Japanese toy history.

Space: 1999 is an Italian-British science fiction television series created in 1973 by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, about an apocalyptic event at a prophetic end of the millennium, to the detriment of our Moon, torn from Earth’s orbit. The subject, full of tension and drama, follows the recurring catastrophic cinematic trend of those years. On September 9, 1999, John Koenig takes command of the Alpha lunar base, a permanent scientific installation, to manage the preparations for an exploratory expedition to the recently discovered planet Meta. In the meantime, inexplicable accidents and deaths affect the workers of a nuclear waste storage facility as well as the astronauts who are candidates for the expedition. Soon, a sudden increase in the magnetic field generated by the waste itself is detected. Koenig does not have time to intervene: on September 13, an explosion of incredible violence is triggered, causing the Moon to leave Earth’s orbit. The satellite begins its drift in space and in this aimless wandering the base’s crew comes into contact with alien civilizations (sometimes friendly, sometime hostile) and unusual life forms, which lead to philosophical reflections on the ultimate meaning of life. |
