Thunderbirds: Soccorso Internazionale

Ambientata nel 2026, la serie segue le missioni della “International Rescue”, un’organizzazione segreta fondata dall’ex astronauta Jeff Tracy. Dalla loro base segreta nel Pacifico, Jeff e i suoi cinque figli intervengono nei disastri globali più estremi utilizzando i Thunderbirds, avveniristici mezzi tecnologici progettati dal genio Brains per missioni di soccorso impossibili.

Il merchandising Diecast della serie è vastissimo, ma la produzione POPY occupa un posto d’onore. Popy realizzò i veicoli principali e la base operativa (Tracy Island), tra cui spiccano il Thunderbird 1 (PA-20), il mastodontico Thunderbird 2 (PA-21/PC-09), il sottomarino Thunderbird 4 (PA-23) e la trivella Jet Mole (PA-25). Sebbene alcuni pezzi siano più ambiti, in generale questi modelli sono considerati abbastanza comuni nel mercato vintage, pur restando icone intramontabili per ogni collezionista.

Viene tuttora programmata e ha ispirato diverse altre serie televisive e film. Da essa è tratto il film live actionThunderbirds del 2004. Un nemico dell’organizzazione, innominato nella serie ma noto come The Hood, di tanto in tanto provoca incidenti allo scopo di far venire allo scoperto i Thunderbirds e spiarli o, addirittura, rubarli. A dar la caccia a The Hood e ad altri nemici dell’organizzazione, c’è l’agente di International Rescue a Londra, lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, regina del jet-set internazionale (la cui voce originale è di Sylvia Anderson), e il suo autista maggiordomo Aloysius “Nosey” (“ficcanaso”) Parker: essi vanno in giro su una Rolls Royce rosa shocking chiamata FAB 1, equipaggiata con gadget in stile James Bond (la Rolls-Royce diede effettivamente l’autorizzazione a riprodurre la griglia del radiatore nei primi piani dell’automobile) e, nei casi in cui ci si sposti via mare, su uno yacht chiamato FAB 2.

La serie Thunderbirds ha riscosso un enorme successo, persino ai giorni nostri è ancora un cult. Il merchandising è stato, ed è tuttora, enorme. Appena uscita la serie furono infatti rilasciate olre 120 licenze: giocattoli di ogni tipo in plastica ed in metallo, libri, comics colonne sonore fino ad arrivare ai DVD della serie venduti on line in questi anni. Popy in passato ottenne i diritti per poter riprodurre i veicoli dei protagonisti e la loro base. Tranne alcuni modelli (il T4 e il T2 in particolare) sono pezzi abbastanza comuni che non raggiungono quasi mai cifre particolarmente alte.

I THUNDERBIRDS

I protagonisti della serie sono delle marionette da marionette, frutto di una tecnologia chiamata “Supermarionation”.

Scott

Pilota del Thunderbird 1, è di solito il primo ad arrivare nella zona di pericolo e spesso si comporta come comandante di campo su tutte le operazioni di soccorso . Assume anche funzioni secondarie come co-pilota della navicella Thunderbird 3 e talvolta della stazione spaziale Thunderbird 5. Conduce l’organizzazione dalla base dei Thunderbirds quando il padre è assente .

Virgil

Dopo aver studiato alla “Denver School of Advanced Technology” , ha assunto il ruolo come pilota principale di Thunderbird 2. Oltre che pilotare il T2 è anche specializzato anche nella consegna e nell’utilizzo delle attrezzature di primo soccorso durante le missioni . Virgil occasionalmente pilota anche altri veicoli durante alcune puntate lo si vede utilizzare il Thunderbird3 e il Thunderbird5.

Allan

Alan ha studiato presso l’Università del Colorado , dove la sua irruenza naturale ha portato a uno scontro con le autorità che ha comportato anche un suo arresto. Suo padre ha preso in mano la situazione spingendolo ad impegnarsi per raggiungere scopi più importanti nella vita. Alan grazie a lui è diventato un ottimo astronauta e nella serie è il pilota principale del Thunderbird 3 .

Gordon

Pilota del thunderbids 4 speciaizzato in missioni marine

John

Alunno modello dell’università di Harvard, ha una natura tranquilla, il suo enorme l’interesse per l’astronomia l’ha portato ad accettare l’incarico di abitare nella Thunderbird 5 dove monitorizza le richieste di soccorso provenienti da tutto il mondo e pianifica gli interventi di soccorso.

Jeff Tracy

Come patriarca della famiglia Tracy , passa la maggior parte del suo tempo su Tracy Island, situata da qualche parte nell’Oceano Pacifico , da dove coordina missioni di salvataggio

Thunderbirds: International Rescue

Set in 2026, the series follows the missions of “International Rescue,” a secret organization founded by former astronaut Jeff Tracy. From their secret Pacific base, Jeff and his five sons intervene in the most extreme global disasters using the Thunderbirds, futuristic technological vehicles designed by the genius Brains for impossible rescue missions.

The Diecast merchandising for the series is vast, but the POPY production holds a place of honor. Popy produced the main vehicles and the operational base (Tracy Island), including the Thunderbird 1 (PA-20), the massive Thunderbird 2 (PA-21/PC-09), the Thunderbird 4 submarine (PA-23), and the Jet Mole drill (PA-25). Although some pieces are more sought after, in general, these models are considered fairly common in the vintage market, while remaining timeless icons for every collector.

The Thunderbirds series has been a huge success, even today it is still a cult. The merchandising has been, and still is, huge. As soon as the series came out, over 120 licenses were released: toys of all kinds in plastic and metal, books, comics, soundtracks up to the DVDs of the series sold online in recent years. Popy in the past obtained the rights to reproduce the vehicles of the protagonists and their base. Except for a few models (the T4 and the T2 in particular) they are quite common pieces that almost never reach particularly high prices.

The protagonists of the series are puppets made using a technology called “Supermarionation”.

Scott

Pilot of Thunderbird 1, he is usually the first to arrive in the danger zone and often acts as field commander on all rescue operations. He also takes on secondary duties as co-pilot of the Thunderbird 3 spacecraft and sometimes the Thunderbird 5 space station. He runs the organization from the Thunderbirds’ base when his father is away.

Virgil

After studying at the Denver School of Advanced Technology, he took on the role of the primary pilot of Thunderbird 2. In addition to flying the T2, he also specializes in delivering and using first aid equipment during missions. Virgil also occasionally pilots other vehicles during some episodes, and is seen using the Thunderbird3 and Thunderbird5.

Allan

Alan studied at the University of Colorado, where his natural impetuosity led to a clash with the authorities that also resulted in his arrest. His father took charge of the situation, pushing him to commit himself to achieving greater goals in life. Thanks to him, Alan became an excellent astronaut and in the series he is the main pilot of the Thunderbird 3.

Gordon

Pilot of the Thunderbirds 4 specialized in marine missions

John

A model student at Harvard University, he has a calm nature, his enormous interest in astronomy led him to accept the assignment to live in Thunderbird 5 where he monitors distress calls from all over the world and plans rescue operations.

Jeff Tracy

As the patriarch of the Tracy family, he spends most of his time on Tracy Island, located somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, from where he coordinates rescue missions.

THUNDERBIRD 1: Hypersonic missile with variable geometry wing, used for fast access and flying reconnaissance. It is 35 meters long, its wingspan is 24 meters, and the maximum speed achievable is Mach 12.6.
THUNDERBIRD 2: Large supersonic airplane, used for transporting rescue vehicles. 76 meters long, 18 meters high, wingspan of 55 meters, and maximum speed of Mach 4.1
THUNDERBIRD 3: Reusable spaceship, suitable for space rescue and maintenance of Thunderbird 5. 87 meters long, 7 meters wide, maximum width including reactors 24 meters, maximum speed Mach 5.86.
THUNDERBID 4: Submarine for submarine rescue. It is normally transported by Thunderbird 2, but is self-sufficient. 9 meters long, 3 meters wide.
THUNDERBIRD 5: Orbiting space station, which has the task of both scanning the ether to receive any radio distress requests, and maintaining communications with the organization. 122 meters long, 90 meters wide and 83 meters high
