Danguard Ace: Il Guardiano Planetario di Leiji Matsumoto
Creato da Leiji Matsumoto nel 1977, Danguard Ace è una pietra miliare dell’animazione robotica. Il robot è celebre per la sua trasformazione nell’astronave Satellizer, un design iconico che ha segnato l’epoca d’oro dei super robot.
Nel collezionismo vintage, la licenza appartiene alla Popy. I pezzi più ambiti sono il Chogokin DX (GA-79), che permette la trasformazione completa, e la versione ST (GA-78), nota per l’ampio uso di metallo e la grande robustezza. Trovare questi modelli completi di scatola originale e accessori (come le ali e i lanciamissili) rappresenta un traguardo fondamentale per ogni appassionato dell’universo di Matsumoto.

| DANGUARD – DANGARD– 56 PUNTATE – 1978 |
La serie, di 56 episodi, fu realizzata nel 1977 ed inaugurò la collaborazione della Toei con Leiji Matsumoto, all’indomani della rottura dei rapporti tra la casa giapponese e Go Nagai. Il character design fu affidato a Shingo Araki, mentre le musiche sono di Shunsuke Kikuchi. Ne fu realizzato anche un manga, pubblicato in due tankobon. Alla serie televisiva si aggiungono anche due cortometraggi cinematografici usciti nei cinema giapponesi tra il 1977 ed il 1978. In Italia l’anime è stato importato nel 1978, ed è stato il primo ad essere trasmesso da una rete privata, mentre i due cortometraggi sono inediti. Il manga è stato invece pubblicato da Panini Comics. La storia narra le vicissitudini del gruppo di ricerca del dottor Oedo (Galax), il cui obiettivo è raggiungere il decimo pianeta del sistema solare, Prometeo, allo scopo di sfruttarne le risorse naturali e garantire un futuro all’umanità. Prometeo è però anche nelle mire di Doppler, un ricco e malvagio scienziato a capo di un’organizzazione paramilitare (che ricorda per divise e rituali i nazisti) che ha deciso di fare del decimo pianeta la patria di una nuova razza di eletti. Doppler invia molti mostri meccanici (i mechasatan) per distruggere la base Yasdam, il quartier generale di Oedo, ed i suoi attacchi vengono respinti a fatica, finché la base Yasdam non decolla ed inizia il suo viaggio verso il decimo pianeta in gara con il Planester di Doppler. La storia ruota anche intorno al rapporto conflittuale tra il Capitano Dan, un misterioso uomo con una maschera di ferro fuggito dalla base di Doppler e rifugiatosi a Yasdam, e l’aspirante pilota del Danguard, Takuma Ichimonji (Arin), del quale lo stesso Dan diventa istruttore. In realtà il Capitano Dan è Dantetsu Ichimonji (Cosmos), il padre di Takuma creduto morto dieci anni prima nel corso della prima “missione Prometeo”, da lui stesso inspiegabilmente sabotata. Vittima di un condizionamento telepatico e ridotto in uno stato di amnesia, il padre di Takuma in effetti era stato uno strumento nelle mani di Doppler, che poi lo aveva fatto prigioniero e schiavo. Il capitano Dan scopre dopo un’esplosione la sua identità ma la tiene nascosta a Takuma Ichimonji fino all’incidente le cui conseguenze lo porteranno alla morte (che avviene un istante dopo che la base Yasdam decolla). In realtà però il ricordo degli insegnamenti di suo padre accompagna Takuma per tutti gli episodi successivi. |

La produzione di modelli diecast fu affidata alla Popy, che riprodusse il robot in 2 versioni (standard e deluxe) e tutti i veicoli che compaiono nella serie. Pezzi abbastanza comuni da trovare. Il Danguard Dx mantiene prezzi elevati anche se decisamente inferiori rispetto a qualche anno fa.

Arin
E’ l’eroe della storia e il pilota del Danguard. Suo padre, il capitano Cosmos, un grande pilota, scompare misteriosamente anni prima, al principio dell’inizio del Progetto Prometeo, così Arin creasce credendo che suo padre sia morto.
Capitano Dan
un misterioso uomo con una maschera di ferro fuggito dalla base di Doppler e rifugiatosi a Yasdam, In realtà il Capitano Dan è Dantetsu Ichimonji (Cosmos), il padre di Takuma creduto morto dieci anni prima nel corso della prima “missione Prometeo”.
Lisa
Lisa (Nova nella versione italiana) è molto semplice e dolce ma anche coraggiosa. è l’Ufficiale Addetto Alle Comunicazioni della base Yasdam nonostante la giovane età ed è la nipote dottor Oedo (Galax). Più tardi nella serie, arriverà a pilotare la “Space Lady” prima e lo “Sky Arrow” dopo, nelle missioni di ricognizione dello spazio.
Cancelliere Doppler
Doppler è un ricco e malvagio scienziato a capo di un’organizzazione paramilitare (che ricorda per divise e rituali i nazisti) che ha deciso di fare del Decimo Pianeta la patria di una nuova razza di eletti.

Danguard Ace: Leiji Matsumoto’s Planetary Guardian
Created by Leiji Matsumoto in 1977, Danguard Ace remains an icon of sci-fi anime. The robot is famous for its transformation into the Satellizer spacecraft, a hallmark of 1970s mecha design.
The vintage toy market is led by Popy’s Chogokin line. The DX version (GA-79) is the ultimate collectible due to its full transformation, while the ST version (GA-78) is prized for its solid diecast build. Finding these items in Mint in Box (MIB) condition, featuring original box art and all accessories, is a key objective for serious collectors of vintage Japanese heroes.

The series, of 56 episodes, was made in 1977 and inaugurated the collaboration of Toei with Leiji Matsumoto, in the aftermath of the breakdown of relations between the Japanese company and Go Nagai. The character design was entrusted to Shingo Araki, while the music is by Shunsuke Kikuchi. A manga was also made, published in two tankobon. The television series was joined by two short films released in Japanese cinemas between 1977 and 1978. In Italy the anime was imported in 1978, and was the first to be broadcast by a private network, while the two short films are unpublished. The manga was instead published by Panini Comics. The story narrates the adventures of the research group of Doctor Oedo (Galax), whose objective is to reach the tenth planet of the solar system, Prometheus, in order to exploit its natural resources and guarantee a future for humanity. Prometheus is also in the sights of Doppler, a rich and evil scientist who heads a paramilitary organization (which resembles the Nazis in its uniforms and rituals) who has decided to make the tenth planet the home of a new race of elect. Doppler sends many mechanical monsters (the mechasatan) to destroy the Yasdam base, the headquarters of Oedo, and his attacks are barely repelled, until the Yasdam base takes off and begins its journey towards the tenth planet in competition with Doppler’s Planester. The story also revolves around the conflictual relationship between Captain Dan, a mysterious man with an iron mask who escaped from Doppler’s base and took refuge in Yasdam, and the aspiring pilot of the Danguard, Takuma Ichimonji (Arin), of whom Dan himself becomes an instructor. In reality, Captain Dan is Dantetsu Ichimonji (Cosmos), Takuma’s father believed to have died ten years earlier during the first “Prometheus mission”, which he himself inexplicably sabotaged. Victim of telepathic conditioning and reduced to a state of amnesia, Takuma’s father had in fact been an instrument in the hands of Doppler, who then took him prisoner and slave. Captain Dan discovers his identity after an explosion but keeps it hidden from Takuma Ichimonji until the accident whose consequences will lead to his death (which occurs an instant after the Yasdam base takes off). In reality, however, the memory of his father’s teachings accompanies Takuma for all subsequent episodes. |
The Diecast merchandising of the series was made by the POPY .
The production of diecast models was entrusted to Popy, which reproduced the robot in 2 versions (standard and deluxe) and all the vehicles that appear in the series. Pieces quite common to find. The Danguard Dx maintains high prices even if decidedly lower than a few years ago.

Arin
He is the hero of the story and the pilot of the Danguard. His father, Captain Cosmos, a great pilot, mysteriously disappears years before, at the beginning of the Prometheus Project, so Arin believes his father is dead.
Capitano Dan
a mysterious man in an iron mask who escaped from the Doppler base and took refuge in Yasdam. In reality, Captain Dan is Dantetsu Ichimonji (Cosmos), Takuma’s father who was believed to have died ten years earlier during the first “Prometheus mission”.
Lisa
Lisa (Nova in the Italian version) is very simple and sweet but also brave. She is the Communications Officer of the Yasdam base despite her young age and is the granddaughter of Doctor Oedo (Galax). Later in the series, she will pilot the “Space Lady” first and the “Sky Arrow” later, in space reconnaissance missions.
Doppler
Doppler is a rich and evil scientist who heads a paramilitary organization (reminiscent of the Nazis in its uniforms and rituals) who has decided to make the Tenth Planet the homeland of a new race of chosen ones.

First officer of Doppler’s army. Often personally pilots the Megasatans that fight against Danguard
