In questa serie del 1977, i capi di due scuderie rivali si sfidano in spettacolari campionati automobilistici. Il giovane pilota Riki Kazama, a bordo della futuristica Machine Hiryu, affronta le scorrettezze del team Zenizen e del presidente Gapporin. Un mix di azione, gare mozzafiato e comicità tipica dello stile Tatsunoko.

Machine Hiryu -la traduzione del titolo dovrebbe essere “Decolla macchina Hyriu.” , trasmesso in Italia con il nome “il drago Volante” è una serie comica che ha, nella caratterizzazione dei personaggi e nel design dei mezzi, gli elementi strutturali tipici delle serie “Time Bokan”, anche se non vengono effettuati viaggi nel tempo ma vere e proprie corse automobilistiche. I capi delle case automobilistiche rivali decidono di combattersi nell’arena sportiva sostenendo diverse squadre di auto da corsa. Il presidente Gapporin ingaggia Okkanabichi il pilota supremo, mentre il presidente Misaki ingaggia Riki Kazama, un pilota relativamente inesperto per l’auto volante nota come Machine Hiryu. |

HIRYU: veicolo guidato dal protagonista, è l’auto futuristica utilizzata per gareggiare nei vari gran premi automobilistici.
DUNPER: Camion utilizzato per trasportare la Michine Hiryu e per gli spostamenti più lungi.
COPTER: Piccolo elicottero utilizzato per segnalare dall’alto eventuali pericoli che si trovano durante il percorso.

Riki Kazama
Protagonista della serie è un giovane ma esperto pilota che guida Machine Hiryu.
Nana Misaki
La ragazza del gruppo innamorata di Riki, guida il Dunper, il grande camion che trasporta la Machine Hiryu.
Okkanapichi
Il personaggio più piccolo del gruppo, nonostante l’età è gia in grado di pilotore una sorta di elicottero, il Machine Copter
Squadra Zenizen
Team rivale che si avvale di un pilota spietato ma allo stesso tempo stupido impulsivo ed irruento spalleggiato da sua moglie, una donna tanto bella quanto subdola e disposta a tutto pur di vincere.

Machine Hiryu – the translation of the title should be “Decolla Macchina Hyriu.”, broadcast in Italy with the name “il drago Volante” is a comedy series that has, in the characterization of the characters and in the design of the vehicles, the typical structural elements of the “Time Bokan” series, even if there are no time travels but real car races. The heads of rival car companies decide to battle it out in the sports arena by backing different racing teams. President Gapporin hires Okkanabichi the supreme driver, while President Misaki hires Riki Kazama, a relatively inexperienced driver for the flying car known as Machine Hiryu. |

Little known anime, well made but not very sought after models except for the protagonist’s car which is very expensive.

Riki Kazama
The protagonist of the series is a young but experienced pilot who drives Machine Hiryu.
Nana Misaki
The girl of the group in love with Riki, drives the Dunper, the large truck that transports the Machine Hiryu.
Okkanapichi
The smallest character of the group, despite his age, is already able to pilot a sort of helicopter, the Machine Copter.
Team Zenizen
Rival team that makes use of a ruthless but at the same time stupid, impulsive and impetuous driver supported by his wife, a woman as beautiful as she is devious and willing to do anything to win .
